John Cameron McCubbin was born in Hancock County, Illinois on September 4, 1863 to Thomas and Martha Cameron McCubbin. In April 1885, McCubbin moved to Red Bluff, California where he lived until August 1886. He then moved to Traver, California and shortly thereafter accepted a position with the 76 Land and Water Company, eventually becoming their Assistant Superintendent.
